It is used for mild and moderate infections caused by highly susceptible pathogens, such as tonsillitis caused by group A streptococci, scarlet fever, erysipelas, streptococcus pneumoniae pneumonia, furuncle, carbuncle caused by penicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus, and pharyngitis.

[untoward effect]

• Allergic reactions: urticaria and other rashes are common, leukopenia, interstitial nephritis, asthma attacks and serotype reactions are rare.
